Objednávka 328 autobusů pro New York City
Volvo Buses zajišťuje objednávku na 328 kloubových autobusů pro New York City prostřednicvím dceřiné společnosti Nova Bus. Objednávka je za 231 milionů USD.

Objednávka zahrnuje 328 kloubových autobusů Nova LFS. Zákazník, MTA New York City Transit, provozuje flotilu více než 6000 autobusů a je největším lokálním operátorem v Severní Americe.

Testované autobusy fungovaly velmi dobře, a to přispělo k nové velké objednávce. 328 autobusů bude dodáno od srpna 2011 do dubna 2013. Autobusy vyrobí závod Nova Bus v Plattsburghu na severozápadě státu New York.

Objednávka na 60 hybridů pro brazilskou Curitibu
Volvo Buses obdrželo do současnosti největší objednávku na hybridní autobusy z Brazílie. 60 hybridů bude dodáno od roku 2012. Hybridy Volvo 7700 byly úspěšně testovány v Latinské Americe v roce 2010 a 2011.

Volvo order for 328 buses for New York City
Volvo Buses has secured an order for 328 articulated buses for New York City through its subsidiary Nova Bus. The order is valued at USD 231 M.

The order applies to 328 Nova LFS articulated buses. The client, MTA New York City Transit, has a fleet of more than 6,000 buses, the largest bus fleet among all local transport companies in North America and one of the largest in the world.

In the past year, MTA tested 90 of Nova’s articulated buses, including on Line M15 in Manhattan. They are the first buses in New York City with three doors and low floors throughout the bus, which contribute to more rapid and comfortable boarding and alighting. The buses functioned very well during the test and contributed to the new major order. The 328 new buses will be delivered from August 2011 to April 2013.

“Nova Bus is proud to continue its partnership with MTA New York City Transit,” said Nova Bus President and CEO Gilles Dion. “Since 2009, our teams have worked in close collaboration to customize our product to address the unique operational needs of New York City.”

One prerequisite for selling city buses in the US is that a large portion of the manufacturing must also occur in the country. The buses for New York City will be manufactured in Nova Bus’s plant in Plattsburgh, in the northern part of the State of New York.

“MTA has made the right choice in selecting a transit bus manufacturing company like Nova Bus for this contract,” U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer said. “This decision means that New York City riders will travel in safe, high-quality buses, and Upstate workers will have even greater economic opportunities in Plattsburgh – an absolutely perfect combination.”

Order for 60 Volvo hybrid buses from Curitiba
Volvo Buses has received its largest hybrid bus order to date. The city of Curitiba in Brazil has ordered 60 buses that generate up to 35% less fuel consumption.

One of the world’s largest challenges is reducing total energy consumption. One way to achieve this goal in public transport is to use hybrid buses that recycle the brake energy, thus significantly reducing the fuel consumption.

More decision-makers around the world are recognizing the considerable benefits of hybrid technology in city buses. In recent years, Volvo Buses has sold hundreds of hybrid buses through its Volvo brand in Europe, Nova Bus in North America and Sunwin Bus in China. The company has now also received its first hybrid order in South America. The city of Curitiba has ordered 60 hybrid buses for delivery from 2012.

“Several of the largest cities in Brazil and the rest of South America tested a Volvo 7700 Hybrid in 2010 and at the beginning of this year,” says Luis Carlos Pimenta, President of Volvo Buses in Latin America. “The tests were very successful and contributed to this first order, which we believe will be followed by additional orders from other cities.”

Consequently, Volvo Buses has decided to commence manufacturing hybrid buses in Curitiba. It will involve the same hybrid technology used in Volvo’s hybrid buses and trucks in Europe and which is currently the world’s most efficient for heavy vehicles.

The buses are equipped with a small diesel engine and an electric motor, which can be used independently or jointly. The electric motor is driven by energy from a battery that is charged when the bus brakes. At bus stops, the diesel engine switches off completely and the bus restarts using only the electric motor, which creates a silent and exhaust-free environment at bus stops.

“Volvo’s hybrid bus reduces fuel consumption by up to 35% and emissions of carbon dioxide by a corresponding amount,” says Luis Pimenta. “Other exhaust emissions decline by 80-90% compared with current levels in South America.”
