V pondělí 29.6.2009 byla oficielně představena první Citea RTA
(Roads and Transport Authority) v Dubai během výpravné show. Ta tvořila část tiskové konference k
megaobjednávce na 518 autobusů pro VDL Bus & Coach. Citey budou využity v projektu Metro, který startuje v září 2009 a je součástí prestižního strategického plánu RTA zvýšit využití veřejné dopravy v Dubaji o 30%. Citey budou zajišťovat dopravu mezi stanicemi metra a okrajovými částmi.
Všechny Citey pro RTA jsou 12m s trojími 1+2+2 dveřmi a s kapacitou celkem 68 cestujících jsou vybavené high-tech systémem klimatizace a splňují nejvyšší požadavky bezpečnosti. Kabina řidiče je oddělena skleněnou přepážkou. Vepředu je prosor pro ženy a děti oddělený opět skleněnou přepážkou. Autobusy jsou vybaveny informačním systémem.

Key handover
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Management and Executive Director of RTA, received the key to the first Citea CLF from Mr Swaidan Al Naboodah, Vice-Chairman of Al Naboodah Commercial Group, and Mr Wim van der Leegte, Chairman of VDL Groep.
“The order from the RTA is the largest in VDL’s history”, says Wim van der Leegte. “We are very proud that we have won this order and would like to thank the RTA for the tremendous opportunity that this gives us to introduce our products into Dubai. This fits perfectly with our strategy to focus in the future on new and growing markets in the Middle East.”
Citea CLF 120 in RTA version
All Citeas for the RTA are 12 metres long and have a total capacity of 68 passengers. The buses are fitted with a high-tech climate control system and meet the highest requirements in the field of security and safety.
Thanks to the low floor, the bus is also easily accessible for disabled passengers. The ultramodern buses have three passenger doors (1+2+2 door arrangement).
In order to meet the RTA’s specific requirements and wishes, the Citeas were customised down to the last detail. The driver’s cabin is separated from the rest of the bus by a glass partition. Another special feature is the lay-out of the bus: in the front there is a space for women and children, separated from the rest of the bus by another glass partition. In addition, the buses are fully equipped with state-of-the-art passenger information systems, a real-time vehicle monitoring system and automated fare collection.

For the delivery of the Citeas, VDL Bus & Coach will be assisted by the distributor Swaidan Trading. Swaidan Trading is the exclusive distribution partner of VDL Bus & Coach for the United Arab Emirates. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a federation of seven emirates situated in Asia bordering Oman and Saudi Arabia. The UAE consists of seven states, termed emirates, which are Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Quwain, Ras al-Khaimah and Fujairah. As official distributor Swaidan Trading is responsible for sales and after sales.
Besides buses, Swaidan Trading also imports cars, pick-up trucks, fork-lift trucks, cranes, tyres and products for the agricultural industry. This company is part of the Dubai-based Al Naboodah Group. Al Naboodah was founded in 1958 and has since then expanded through takeovers and various partnerships. Mr Samar Roy, Managing Director, Al Naboodah Commercial Group LLC, said the VDL Citea bus order also marks the entry of privately-held VDL, one of the world’s oldest bus and coach manufacturers, into the Middle East. “This is a defining moment for VDL as well since it is the first time their city buses are being introduced in the region through the RTA contract. VDL’s debut into Dubai comes after a series of rigorous tests conducted over many months by the RTA technical team in the Netherlands to ensure that the buses comply with the globally benchmarked standards of the RTA in terms of durability, safety, technical superiority, comfort and modern design.”

VDL Bus & Coach delivers 1st Citea CLF for Dubai
On Monday, 29 June 2009 the first VDL Citea was officially presented to the RTA (Roads and Transport Authority) in Dubai during a spectacular show. The show formed part of a press conference at which additional information was given about the mega-order for 518 city buses that RTA placed with VDL Bus & Coach in 2008. The Citeas will be used for the Metro project, which is due to start in September 2009. This project is part of a prestigious strategic plan by the RTA to increase the use of public transport in Dubai by 30%. The Citeas will provide the transport between the various new metro stations and in the city itself and outlying districts. The first few Citeas are already on their way to Dubai.
