TEN DECADES OF THE BUS CELEBRATED AT EURO BUS EXPO 2008
Visitors to Euro Bus Expo 2008 will not only get a chance to see the very latest technology available on today’s bus and coaches, but also get a unique insight into what might have been “on show” 100 years earlier, thanks to a very special “Ten Decades of the Bus” display.

An original and fully restored 1908 Leyland X2 is just one of four vintage vehicles which will take part in a special display to celebrate “Ten decades of the Bus” at EBE08, which takes place at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham UK 4-6th November.

It will be joined by a 1913 Barnsley & District Electric Traction, Leyland ST “Combination Car” single decker, a 1914 L&NWR Leyland “Torpedo” charabanc and a Brookes Bros (White Rose) of Rhyl, Leyland SG7, 40 seater from 1923. These unique and priceless vehicles have been kindly loaned by Mike and Pat Sutcliffe and form part of a “Ten Decades of the Bus” display feature in the Hall 5 of the show, sponsored by Belmont Insurance.

“Today’s buses are a world apart from their early twentieth century counterparts in terms of design, technology, materials and build, even though their basic function of transporting people has not changed” said EBE08 Show Director, Mark Griffin. “With the Omnibus celebrating ten decades of public service together with a great heritage of bus building in this country, I am sure visitors to the show will greatly enjoy seeing the full spectrum of vehicles from vintage to modern-day on view.”

Speaking on behalf of Sponsors Belmont Insurance, Managing Director Barrie Etchells said “We are thrilled to have these very special vehicles on display - there is a great appreciation of heritage in our industry and we at Belmont are proud to say that we have been around for two of the ten decades of the bus, as we ourselves celebrate our twentieth anniversary this year.”

PR Euro Bus Expo. EBE will take place on 4th- 6th November 2008 in Halls 4 & 5 at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) Birmingham, United Kingdom. More than 350 exhibitors are expected to fill 34,000m2 of stand space over two Halls at one of Europe’s premier purpose-built trade fair venues.
