It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that UITP is organising its 5th international Bus Conference, after Brisbane and Maastricht, now in Bogota. The recent success of Bogota’s TransMilenio solution has been influencing a growing number of cities and international agencies to think of bus rapid transit. Those of you attending the World Congress in Madrid remember the convincing presentation on “Transport and Equity” made by Enrique Peñalosa. The beating heart of public transportation by means of buses, Bogota is the perfect place to hold such an event, which brings together top decision-makers from operators and the supply industry to present, debate and exchange on buses.
Latin America, throughout the last decades has demonstrated to the world an impressive number of solutions to the consequences of a rapid urbanization and demographic growth. As cities move towards solutions to alleviate traffic congestion, pollution and improvements to the quality of life for its citizens, UITP is at the forefront of the sector to unlock the opportunities for the new partnerships and cooperations in the region.
Bogota, the bus hub of Latin America, hosts an impressive number of operators and industry suppliers and service providers that, through innovation, are making mobility a reality. This is the place to meet and share new ideas that will shape the public transport sector in the region and the world in the coming years. The different presentations of the Conference will show you that - from bus system development, a special session on “bus system concepts”, infrastructure and station design - the scientific content of this edition goes far beyond the bus vehicle itself. As far as the latter is concerned, the focus on the latest developments in high capacity vehicles and recent collected experiences with fuels, they complement the genuine system approach.
